Dublin City Schools named 2019 Charter System of the Year
DUBLIN, GA, OCTOBER 2, 2019 — Dublin City Schools is proud to announce that it has been selected as the Charter System of the Year by the Charter System Foundation during its Fall Conference and Awards luncheon held Oct. 2 at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Conference Center.
“This is a great day not only for Dublin City Schools but also for our entire community,” said Dr. Fred Williams, Superintendent. “This award is due in no small part to the hard work, effort and heart of the hundreds of men and women working within the walls of our schools but also the countless others outside the walls who provide support and assistance to ensure High Achievement and Success for All Students. This is a moment of celebration for our district and Dublin-Laurens County, and one we hope our community will join in to congratulate our staff on a job well done.”
Dublin City Schools was selected from a group of districts including: Atlanta Public Schools, Baldwin County Schools, Barrow County Schools, Ben Hill County Schools, Dougherty County Schools, and Lumpkin County Schools.
“At their core, charter systems believe meaningful change in education can occur only if principals, teachers, parents, business and industry leaders and community partners are empowered with the authority and flexibility to make decisions to meet the individual needs of each student,” said Dr. Michele Taylor, Superintendent of Calhoun City Schools and the Charter System Foundation Board Chair.
According to a release from the Charter System Foundation: The Charter System of the Year Award recognizes the system that demonstrates the following attributes listed below.
Flexibility – Uses FLEXIBILITY to change existing policies, practices, and waivers to increase academic level of students.
Innovation – Encourages participation and collaboration by the Governance Team, Principal, Teachers, Students and Community.
Commitment – Shows COMMITMENT to achieving a district-wide program to be implemented with the support of faculty, students, and other individuals and groups involved and the ability to sustain changes over the long-term.
Achievement – Demonstrates improved academic ACHIEVEMENT and student success.
